Grok MCP is how Grok connects to outside tools through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard that lets an AI assistant call other software for you. To post to LinkedIn from Grok with approval before the post goes live, connect Grok over MCP to a posting tool that holds each post for review, let Grok write the caption, and keep the final yes with a person.
The approval step matters more than the setup. Buyers check a founder's LinkedIn feed before the first call, and a post that goes out wrong stays in that feed. The safe pattern splits the work into three jobs, and each job has one owner:
- Grok writes the caption from your raw material: call notes, a client question you answered this week, or your view on a problem your buyers face.
- A posting tool connected over MCP turns the caption into a finished post: a visual in your brand colors and fonts, the right format for each platform, and a scheduled time.
- You read the finished post and approve the post, edit the post, or send the post back to Grok for another draft.
SocialPost.ai is built for the second job. SocialPost drafts the caption, renders the brand-correct visual, formats the post for LinkedIn and the other platforms you use, holds the post for your approval and schedules the post. In SocialPost's own words: You approve every post. Nothing publishes without your sign-off.
What does "Grok MCP" mean for a founder who posts on LinkedIn?
MCP gives an assistant a list of tools the assistant can call. A tool can search the web, read a file, or create a draft post inside another product. xAI's API can connect Grok to an outside MCP server from just the server URL, and xAI manages the connection over Streaming HTTP or SSE. Grok's command-line tool also keeps its own list of MCP servers for developers who work in a terminal.
Most pages that rank for "grok mcp" cover the developer side: open-source servers that let Claude call Grok models, or the commands that register a server. Those pages answer the plumbing question. A founder of a two to ten person firm with no marketing hire has a narrower question: once Grok can reach a posting tool, who decides what goes out under the founder's name?
The answer shapes how your firm looks to buyers. A study of 1,202 U.S. business decision-makers by SurveyMonkey and Reddit found that most B2B buyers research on their own before speaking to sales, and that buyers trust peer insights more than vendor websites. For an owner-led firm, LinkedIn content for founders is part of that research. Your feed is a peer voice, and a buyer reads the feed before reading your proposal.
Why the approval step should sit in your posting tool, not in Grok
xAI's Remote MCP documentation describes a require_approval setting, the step where a human approves each tool action, and states that the require_approval setting is not currently supported (checked October 2026). In plain words: when Grok calls an outside tool through the xAI API, Grok does not stop to ask you first. The pause has to live in the tool on the other end of the connection.
So choose a posting tool that holds every post as a draft until a person approves the post. That design also keeps your account on the right side of LinkedIn's rules. LinkedIn Help says third-party software, bots and browser extensions that perform activity on the LinkedIn website break the User Agreement, and accounts that use them can be restricted or shut down. Do not install a browser extension that likes, comments or messages for you. Do not join an engagement pod. Do not send bulk DMs. A post that a person approved, then sent through LinkedIn's official sharing API, is a different thing: LinkedIn's developer documentation describes the w_member_social permission for posting on behalf of a signed-in member.

How do founders handle posting from an AI assistant today?
Most workers still use chatbots lightly. Pew Research Center found 55% of U.S. workers rarely or never use AI chatbots at work, and only 9% use chatbots daily or a few times a week. Among workers who have used chatbots at work, 52% used them to edit written content and 47% used them to draft written content. Writing is the job assistants already do. The gap is the step after the writing: getting the caption onto LinkedIn looking like a company shipped the post.
Founders who already draft with Grok tend to pick one of four routes:
- Copy from Grok, paste into LinkedIn. Suits a founder who posts text only, about once a week. LinkedIn's own scheduler handles the timing. The visual, the formatting for other platforms and the final check all sit with you.
- Grok, then Canva, then Buffer or Hootsuite. Canva suits a founder who enjoys designing each image by hand. Buffer is built for owners of small B2B firms who want a simple posting queue across a few channels. Hootsuite is built for larger teams that run many accounts and a shared inbox. Each tool is a separate tab and a separate step after Grok writes.
- Grok connected over MCP to SocialPost. Suits a founder who wants the caption, the brand-correct visual, the format for each platform and the schedule handled in one flow, with a person approving every post. This is mcp social media posting with the owner kept in charge.
- Bots or browser extensions that act on LinkedIn for you. Do not use this route. LinkedIn prohibits these tools, and the risk lands on your account, the asset your buyers check.

What does it cost to have Grok write your LinkedIn captions?
Here is a worked calculation you can reuse with your own numbers. Count the tokens in a typical caption request: your notes plus a short brand brief as input, and one caption as output. Then apply xAI's listed rates, as of October 2026.
- Input: grok-4.7 charges $2.00 per million input tokens for prompts under 200,000 tokens.
- Output: grok-4.7 charges $6.00 per million output tokens at the same prompt size.
- Multiply your input and output token counts by those two rates and add the results. A caption request of a few thousand tokens comes to less than one cent per caption.
- Example, with token counts chosen for illustration and not measured: 3,000 input tokens cost 3,000 divided by 1,000,000, times $2.00, which is $0.006. 400 output tokens cost 400 divided by 1,000,000, times $6.00, which is $0.0024. The total is $0.0084, or 0.84 cents.
Calling a Remote MCP tool adds no per-call fee from xAI, only the tokens. Turning on Grok's Web Search for fresh facts costs $5 per 1,000 calls, or half a cent per search. These are xAI API prices. If you use Grok through the consumer app instead, the app subscription applies. Either way, the caption costs pennies. The expensive part for a small firm is your time on the visual, the formatting and the scheduling.
A reusable prompt for Grok: "Write a LinkedIn caption under 1,300 characters about the pricing question three clients asked this month. Open with the answer. Use short sentences, no hashtags in the body, and end with one question a buyer would ask on a call." Keep every caption under the 3,000-character LinkedIn limit in the list above.
How to choose your setup
Use this decision rule. If you post less than once a week and never use images, paste from Grok and schedule inside LinkedIn. If you post weekly or more, want a branded visual on each post, or show up on more than one platform, connect Grok over MCP to a posting tool that holds every post for your approval. If any tool offers to like, comment, message or post on LinkedIn without a person checking each action, walk away. For a wider look at the options, see our roundup of AI social media tools.
Where SocialPost fits after Grok writes the caption
Keep using Grok, Claude or ChatGPT. Your assistant sends the caption through MCP to SocialPost, which drafts the post, renders the visual in your brand, formats it for LinkedIn and each other platform you use, holds it for your approval and schedules it. You approve every post. Nothing publishes without your sign-off. FAQ
What is Grok MCP?
Grok MCP is Grok's support for the Model Context Protocol, an open standard that lets Grok call outside tools. Through the xAI API, Grok can connect to a remote MCP server from the server URL, and the Grok command-line tool keeps its own list of MCP servers.
Can Grok post to LinkedIn by itself?
Grok needs a connected posting tool to reach LinkedIn. Use a tool that sends posts through LinkedIn's official sharing API after a person approves each post. LinkedIn prohibits bots and browser extensions that perform activity on the LinkedIn website.
Does Grok ask for approval before an MCP tool acts?
xAI's Remote MCP docs say the require_approval setting is not currently supported (checked October 2026). Put the approval step in the posting tool. In SocialPost, you approve every post. Nothing publishes without your sign-off.
Do you have to stop using ChatGPT or Claude to post from Grok?
No. Keep the assistant you already use. SocialPost connects over MCP to Claude, ChatGPT and Grok, and SocialPost drafts the caption and handles the visual, the format for each platform, the approval hold and the schedule.
Who is this setup for?
This setup suits a founder of a small B2B firm or a B2B team of two to ten people with no marketing hire, whose buyers check LinkedIn before the first call and who want a consistent feed without giving up billable hours.
