A LinkedIn ghostwriter is a writer you pay, usually on a monthly retainer, to learn your voice and publish posts in your name. For a small B2B firm, SocialPost drafts on-brand posts every week, and nothing publishes until the owner approves. A human ghostwriter still earns the fee when you cannot give even a short weekly block of raw opinions.
For most founders, writing is no longer the slow part. Your AI can turn a voice note into a clean draft in one chat. The slow part comes after the draft: a visual that matches your brand, a format that fits each platform, a final read and a time slot. A ghostwriter retainer mostly pays for that finishing work plus the interviews.
SocialPost.ai covers the finishing work for a founder of a small B2B firm or a team of two to ten people with no marketing hire. SocialPost writes the first caption draft, renders a brand-correct visual, formats the post for each platform and holds it for your approval before scheduling. You approve every post. Nothing publishes without your sign-off. The front door is MCP (Model Context Protocol, an open standard that lets an AI assistant use outside tools), so Claude, ChatGPT and Grok can hand a draft straight to SocialPost from the chat you already use.
What does a LinkedIn ghostwriter do?
A ghostwriter interviews you, reads your old posts and drafts new ones in your voice. Most also edit with you and handle timing. Pricing follows three common models: a fee per post, a monthly retainer for a set number of posts, or a done-with-you package where you write and the ghostwriter edits.
Agency fees vary with seniority and are usually billed monthly. For a two-person firm, a monthly fee is a real line item against billable hours.
The demand behind the spend is real. In the 2024 Edelman and LinkedIn study, 75% of decision-makers and C-suite executives said a piece of thought leadership led them to research a product or service they had not been considering. The same study found 52% of decision-makers spend an hour or more each week reading thought leadership, and only 15% call the quality of that reading very good.
Why founders look for a LinkedIn ghostwriter alternative
Three pressures push small firms toward a setup they run themselves.
- Time and people are short. In the Content Marketing Institute's B2B outlook for 2025, a survey of 980 B2B marketers published October 9, 2024, 54% named lack of resources as their top challenge after content creation itself, and only 35% have a scalable model for creating content.
- Raw AI text blends in. Originality.ai ran a detector on 5,000 public LinkedIn posts of 100 words or more and, in a study updated July 30, 2026, classified 81.2% of the posts as Likely AI, a detector estimate rather than proof of authorship. Your opinions and a visual that looks like your company set your post apart.
- You stay accountable. LinkedIn Help says the member is responsible for everything posted on the account and recommends telling readers when you relied heavily on AI and the AI use is not obvious. A ghostwriter does not move that responsibility off your name.
LinkedIn ghostwriter vs your own AI: the three trade-offs that decide it
Price matters, but three trade-offs decide the choice for a small firm.
- Whose thinking goes in. A ghostwriter turns interviews into posts. Your AI turns your notes into posts. Both routes need your opinions, either on a booked call or in a chat window when an idea hits.
- Who makes the post look finished. A brand-correct image or carousel is half of a LinkedIn post, and that work falls to a designer, a design tool or a ghostwriter's team.
- Who signs off. Your name carries the post on every route, so pick a route where you see the final version, visual included, before the post goes out.
- Freelance LinkedIn ghostwriter. Who writes: The ghostwriter, from interviews. Who makes the visual: Depends on the writer. Who approves: You, on the writer's schedule. Best for: A founder with budget and no time for notes.
- Ghostwriting agency. Who writes: Agency writers. Who makes the visual: Agency team, if included. Who approves: You, through the agency's process. Best for: Firms that want a managed sales-led program.
- Your AI plus Canva and a scheduler. Who writes: Your AI. Who makes the visual: You, by hand in Canva. Who approves: You, before scheduling. Best for: A founder who enjoys design and has spare evenings.
- Your AI plus SocialPost. Who writes: Claude, ChatGPT or Grok. Who makes the visual: SocialPost renders a brand-correct visual. Who approves: You, in SocialPost before scheduling. Best for: Founders of small B2B firms and teams of two to ten with no marketing hire.
Who each option suits
- A freelance ghostwriter suits a founder with budget who prefers a weekly call to typing notes. Choose a writer who interviews you.
- A ghostwriting agency suits a firm that wants LinkedIn tied to an outbound sales program and can carry a monthly fee.
- A scheduling tool serves a team that already has finished posts and visuals and wants to schedule across several channels.
- Canva suits a founder who likes designing each graphic and has the time every week.
- SocialPost serves founders and small teams that want to draft on-brand posts, review visuals, approve each post and schedule it in one place.
How to choose: a simple decision rule
Start with your time. If you can give your own opinions in a short block each week, use SocialPost to draft on-brand posts for your review and approval. If you cannot, and the budget is there, hire a human ghostwriter who interviews you. If a designer already makes your visuals, a scheduler alone covers the gap.
Then set a pace you can approve. If ideas run dry, this guide to never running out of content ideas helps you build a list your AI can draw from.
Worked example: how to post consistently on LinkedIn without a marketing team
Before you start posting, read 5 social media mistakes startup founders make.
One week of LinkedIn content for founders, run from your current AI:
- Record a short voice note about a problem you solved for a client this month. Leave out the client's name.
- Paste the transcript into Claude, ChatGPT or Grok and ask for two LinkedIn posts, each with one clear point.
- Send both drafts to SocialPost through MCP. SocialPost renders a brand-correct visual for each and formats each post for LinkedIn and any other platform you use.
- Read each post with its visual, edit or reject, then approve.
- Pick the time slots. For timing basics, read how to schedule LinkedIn posts.
Sample post (swap the brackets for your facts):
A [industry] buyer asked us last month why our quote was higher than a competitor's. The answer was [specific step], which other firms in [industry] often bill as an extra. We now put that step on page one of every proposal, and the price question comes up less often on calls.
Checklist before you approve:
- Every fact in the post is true and yours.
- No client is named without written permission.
- The visual uses your logo, colors and fonts correctly.
- A short disclosure is added if AI did most of the work and the reader cannot tell.
- The time slot avoids your busiest client days.
