For a photo post, LinkedIn Help recommends a width of 1080 pixels and accepts ratios from 3:1 to 4:5. For the picture on a post that carries a link, LinkedIn Help gives 1200 by 627 pixels at a 1.91:1 ratio. For carousel-style slides, upload a document post of up to 100 MB and 300 pages, and frame video so the subject still reads on a phone with the sound off.
Founders and owners of small B2B firms who handle branded social graphics well do three things. They pick one size per format. They build one template per format in their brand colors. They approve each post before the post goes out. SocialPost drafts the caption and visual, and the founder approves each post before it goes out. The graphic is where most small firms lose the hour.
SocialPost.ai was built for that gap. SocialPost drafts the caption, renders the brand-correct visual at the right size, formats the post for each platform and holds it for your approval. The section near the end explains how. First, the specs.
The list below gives the figures LinkedIn publishes on its own help pages, with the format each figure applies to.
- Photo post. Size or limit: 1080 pixels wide recommended, ratios 3:1 to 4:5, 5 MB limit. What LinkedIn says: LinkedIn Help, photo requirements.
- Picture on a post with a link. Size or limit: 1200 by 627 pixels, 1.91:1. What LinkedIn says: LinkedIn Help, Pages help.
- Square or portrait image. Size or limit: Other ratios accepted. What LinkedIn says: Displays in full, padded with white.
- Document post (carousel slides). Size or limit: Up to 100 MB and 300 pages. What LinkedIn says: Accepts PPT, PPTX, DOC, DOCX and PDF.
- Document after posting. Size or limit: Locked. What LinkedIn says: Cannot be edited once posted.
- Multi-image post. Size or limit: Several images in one post. What LinkedIn says: A member can select multiple images for a single post.
- Video. Size or limit: Landscape, square or vertical. What LinkedIn says: Check the upload screen for current file limits before you export.
Two notes on the list. LinkedIn's Pages help says images in other ratios display in full with white padding. A square or portrait graphic will not be cut, but the white bars can make a branded graphic look like a mistake. Second, a document post cannot be edited after posting, so proofread every slide first. A typo on slide six stays on slide six.
What about LinkedIn video dimensions?
The LinkedIn help pages we could verify cover images and documents. We checked those pages on October 9, 2026, and chose to print no video pixel figure we cannot link to LinkedIn itself. The practical rules still hold. Export at the highest resolution your camera or screen recorder gives you. Keep the speaker or the key text in the center of the frame, so a square or vertical version still works. Burn captions into the video, because a buyer scrolling on a train may have the sound off. Before you export a long recording, open the LinkedIn upload screen and read the current length and file size limits there.
Why does the wrong LinkedIn post size cost a small firm anything?
Your buyers look you up before they talk to you. A SurveyMonkey and Reddit survey, published on March 10, 2026, asked 1,202 US business decision-makers how they research purchases. In that survey, 83% of decision-makers research on their own before speaking to sales. In the same survey, 70% of decision-makers have used social media at least once to research business purchases. The survey does not name LinkedIn specifically. For an owner-led B2B firm, LinkedIn is usually the social channel a buyer opens first.
A buyer who opens your company page sees the last few posts. A cropped headline, a blurry logo or a chart floating in white padding tells the buyer the firm is not paying attention. A clean, consistent set of graphics tells the buyer the firm is busy and still winning work. The size of the image is a small thing. The impression is not.
The fix is boring. Pick sizes once. Build templates once. Reuse the templates every week. Our post on five social media mistakes startup founders make covers the other habits that make a page look abandoned.
How do founders make LinkedIn graphics without a designer?
A founder with no marketing hire has four realistic routes. Each route suits a different kind of firm.
- Canva. Suits a founder who wants ready-made templates and drag-and-drop editing. Set a custom canvas at the size you chose, save your brand colors and fonts, and duplicate the design each week.
- Adobe Express. Suits a firm already paying for Adobe tools or working with Adobe files from a past designer.
- Figma. Suits a team of two to ten with one design-minded person who wants exact control over grids, spacing and export settings. Figma takes longer to learn than Canva.
- A freelance graphic designer. Suits a firm where design is part of the pitch, such as a branding studio. PayScale lists an average base hourly rate of $38.06 for US freelance graphic designers. In PayScale's data, the lowest-paid 10% earn under $20.68 an hour and the highest-paid 10% earn above $85.11 an hour.
How to choose
Use this decision rule. If you post less than once a week, a saved template in Canva or Adobe Express is enough. If you post every week and your captions already come from an AI assistant, your bottleneck is the graphic and the approval step, so pick a tool that takes the caption from your AI and returns a sized, branded visual for you to approve. If design quality is what you sell, pay a designer once to build the templates, then reuse the templates yourself.
One route to skip: engagement pods, bulk DM tools and anything that auto-likes or auto-comments. Those tactics are the thing not to do. A buyer judges the post on your page, and a person on your team should approve every post that appears there.
A worked example: what one graphic a week costs to outsource
Take the PayScale average base hourly rate of $38.06. Assume a designer spends one hour a week on a single LinkedIn graphic, including revisions. That assumption is ours, not PayScale's. One hour a week for 52 weeks is $1,979.12 a year. At the PayScale 90th percentile of $85.11 an hour, the same hour a week costs $4,425.72 a year. Add a carousel each month and the hours climb.
Whichever route you choose, run the same checklist before each post:
- Write the caption in your own AI assistant, then edit the caption so the caption sounds like you.
- Pick the format: a photo post, a PDF document for slides, or a short captioned video.
- Drop the headline into your saved template, using your brand colors, fonts and logo.
- Check the graphic on your phone. Look for cropped text, small type and white padding.
- For a document post, proofread every slide, because the file cannot be edited after posting.
- Approve the post, then schedule the post for a time your buyers are working.
Draft LinkedIn posts with the right visual size
SocialPost.ai drafts the caption, creates the brand-correct visual at the right LinkedIn post size, formats the post for each platform you use, holds it for your approval and schedules it.
MCP is the front door. MCP, short for Model Context Protocol, is a standard way for an AI assistant to talk to another app. If you want to connect Claude to social media, or connect ChatGPT to social media, you add SocialPost to the assistant as an MCP connection. Grok works the same way. That is MCP social media posting in plain terms: you ask your assistant for a post, and SocialPost drafts it with the graphic already sized and on-brand.
You approve every post. Nothing publishes without your sign-off. For a wider look at the tools in this space, read our guide to the best AI social media tools.

FAQ
What is the best LinkedIn post size for an image?
For a photo post, LinkedIn Help recommends a width of 1080 pixels and accepts ratios from 3:1 to 4:5. For the picture on a post with a link, LinkedIn Help gives 1200 by 627 pixels at a 1.91:1 ratio.
How big can a LinkedIn carousel or document post be?
LinkedIn's help page says a document post can be up to 100 MB and 300 pages. LinkedIn accepts PPT, PPTX, DOC, DOCX and PDF files. The document cannot be edited after posting, so proofread every slide first.

Yes. LinkedIn's photo help page says a member can select multiple images for one post. For slides that must read in a fixed order, a PDF document post keeps the sequence.
What size should a LinkedIn video be?
LinkedIn accepts landscape, square and vertical video. Export at the highest resolution you have, keep the subject centered, burn in captions, and check the LinkedIn upload screen for the current length and file size limits before you export.
